Former Alabama women's basketball star graduate Jasmine Walker was selected seventh overall in the WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks.

“The WNBA was a dream come true,” said Walker. “This is what I’ve always wanted.”

Walker, a Montgomery native who graduated from Jeff Davis, is the first Alabama player to be selected in the WNBA draft since Monique Bivens in 2005. She is the second-highest draft pick in program history, behind Tausha Mills, who was drafted second overall in 2000.

The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 19.1 points and 9.4 rebounds in 27 games in her senior season. She shot 39.8% from the 3-point line.

In her senior season, Walker led Alabama to it’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999 and was named first-team All-SEC.

Walker holds Alabama’s single-game scoring record with 41 points, which came in a win on the road against Auburn. She ranks third in career 3-point percentage at Alabama and finished with 1,396 points.

The Sparks finished 15-7 and lost in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Walker joins the Ogwumike sisters and Kristi Toliver on a team that will look to make a playoff push.

“I want to win a championship in my first year,” said Walker. “We’re going to work and it could possibly happen.”
